Electrical Permits Explained
An electrical permit (sometimes called an installation permit) is required to do any electrical work, including but not limited to:
installation of electrical wiring or equipment
upgrades or modifications of existing equipment
remodeling or renovating which requires electrical work to be performed
All electrical permits require work to be supervised by a qualified Field Service Representative (FSR) in order to ensure standards of safety and quality of work.
Technical Safety BC is the authority in British Columbia responsible for verifying and enforcing standards of work and regulation such as permit applications, documentation, as well as the scope of work.
Permit fees are based on the total price paid by the client for all electrical work, excluding GST but including both labour and materials from any source. Additional fees and/or permits may be required if the work involves multiple sites or building units.

YOU MAY NEED AN OPERATING PERMIT IF:

Your building has a fire alarm system
You require ongoing maintenance of regulated equipment or products
